Halloween and Christmas hog most of the seasonal movie fun, but we managed to come up with a list of films perfectly suited for the Thanksgiving spirit!

1

Life is Beautiful

Roberto Benigni commands this brilliant 1997 classic. In regard to the holiday season, it is important we stop to recognize our blessings and our health throughout these chaotic times. Life is Beautiful showcases a Jewish-Italian family caught in the middle of the Nazi Holocaust, reminding us all of the fragility of human life and the strength of familial ties. Benigni must make light of the horrible circumstances he and his family faces, utilizing relentless comedic relief and inspiring his son to keep hope throughout the pain.

2

It's a Wonderful Life

Although often associated with the Christmas spirit, It's a Wonderful Life is a great film to throw in around Thanksgiving. James Stewart stars as George Bailey, whose guardian angel, Clarence, intervenes on his suicidal contemplations to show him what value his existence truly carries. By illustrating a world without George's interaction, Clarence illuminates the positive impact and the relationships fostered around George, inspiring a new perspective and change of heart committed to his family and his community. It's a Wonderful Life is a great catalyst for reflection, gratitude and service.

3

50/50

Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen star in this comedic — yet appropriate — perspective on cancer. The two are co-workers and best friends, but when Gordon-Levitt is diagnosed with a malignant tumor in his spine and normality soon shifts to chemotherapy, their relationship evolves into an entirely new realm. Take the time to appreciate your support system and your irreplaceable friendships this Thanksgiving.

4

Benny and Joon

An often-overlooked Johnny Depp classic, Benny and Joon examines love, friendship and family in some of life's unexpected places. It's lighthearted and fun on the outside: Depp plays an eccentric Buster Keaton fan who falls, quite literally, head over heels for the "ill" sister, Joon of the man, Benny , who took him under his roof. The film also highlights sensitive issues of identity, acceptance, sacrifice and healing. Although it never explicitly defines Joon's condition, I've always been reminded of the spunk and quirkiness exhibited by my younger sister, who has Autism, and personally, this film has always inspired me to remain thankful for the beautiful challenges and curveballs we all face in life. Sometimes the best answers are unconventional — like cooking grilled cheese with an iron!

5

Stepmom

This season is all about tradition. For many, although the holidays are chaotic, they symbolize a certain routine and functionality carefully disguised by all the last-minute shopping and cooking to pull it off. But what happens when the routine of life as a whole gets out of whack? What happens when your ex-husband brings a newer, younger mother figure into the picture who steps on your toes left and right? In addition, you've just been diagnosed with a fatal disease, and you're left with quite the conundrum. Susan Sarandon, Ed Harris and Julia Roberts star in this tale of purpose, promise and poise and the passing of the torch as our days go by and tradition is rattled. The film serves as a reminder that change is scary, and asking for help can be equally intimidating, but the persistence and grace of others around us can truly come to our rescue. Stepmom teaches us the importance of trust and acceptance, and the underlying element of mortality demands we appreciate every special moment we have in life.

Has Justice League found its new Batman?

$

The Justice League is in dire need of the Caped Crusader. Now that Bruce Wayne's retired, a new hero has to fill his shoes. Rumor has it another Dark Knight Rises star may bring Batman to the Justice League.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Last summer, Christian Bale said goodbye to Batman. The actor spent the past seven years of his career wearing the cape and mask, and following The Dark Knight Rises, he finally bid adieu.

Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy couldn't have ended at a more inopportune time. As he wrapped his story, Warner Bros. began working on their Justice League movie. Every self-respecting comic book fan knows Batman is a major member of the JLA team.

How can they have Justice League with no Batman? Don't worry, the studio is hard at work finding a replacement. According to HitFix, the new Caped Crusader could be right under our noses.

Who's brave enough to tackle WB's Justice League?>>

[Spoiler alert]

Sources claim The Dark Knight Rises star Joseph Gordon-Levitt could appear in Justice League as the new Batman. At the end of TDKR, Bruce Wayne passed the torch to Gordon-Levitt's character John Blake. He essentially gave him the key to the Batcave, and access to his arsenal. More or less, Blake became Gotham's new protector.

There's word that next year's Superman reboot Man of Steel might set the stage for the Justice League and the new Bats. Director Zack Snyder hinted that Justice League and Man of Steel's existence could be intertwined.

Hot trailer: Man of Steel is the new Superman>>

It's a formula that Marvel used to set up The Avengers. Every character's film was essentially linked. You can't have the Justice League without Superman or Batman. That's like The Avengers without Iron Man or Captain America.

We doubt Warner Bros. would disappoint fans that way. They've got too much riding on JLA's success.

Batman is making his way onto most wish lists this season, and with good reason. The Dark Knight Rises is well-deserving of this week's top DVD release.

The Dark Knight Rises is definitely topping our list this week. Christian Bale stars as Batman in the finale of the epic saga. This time the masked crusader is up against a world of pain — er, Bane — and the fate of Gotham lies in his hands. Luckily Joseph Gordon- Levitt and Anne Hathaway are on his side, as the revamped Robin and Catwoman.

All the while, she clings to the belief that each piece of the universe has its own place and order, somehow holding her life together. Be sure to check out the trailer for more on this complex story.

After thirty years of happy marriage, life presents a new season and Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones decide to go to a fierce, week-long counseling session to salvage their love. Steve Carell stars as Dr. Feld, so you know he'll being the comedic relief.

Samsara is the next epic installment from the creators of Baraka. This documentary is an incredibly unique experience as it was shot entirely on 70mm film, translating into a dazzling presentation, and although the film does have sound, the plot moves along its journey with no use of dialogue. Samsara is an unparalleled sensory experience that takes audiences across many brilliant cultural landscapes.

The Odd Life of Timothy Green is a fun film from the wonderful minds over at Disney. Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton are a happily married couple looking to grow their own family, but when a young, extraordinary boy shows up on their doorstep, fresh out of their garden one stormy night, things aren't quite what they expected. .

Pitch Perfect sings its way to top DVD release

Five exciting DVD releases just in time for the holidays. Whether you're looking for last-minute stocking stuffers, something for the Mr., or just a family-friendly flick, this list has you covered.

1) Pitch Perfect— Anna Kendrick, Brittany Snow and Rebel Wilson star in this hilarious perspective into an all-girl college singing group. From mean girls to sweet girls to weird girls, the only thing this group has in common are great voices. The film is rated PG-13 but it's relatively safe for the whole family and it will keep everyone laughing throughout.

Rotten Tomatoes — 80% Fresh

2) Killer Joe— Matthew McConaughey like you've never seen him before. He's a crooked cop with the charm of a Southern gentleman. There's just one twist: he's also a hit man. This time he's contracted to off a mother so her son can square up his drug debts with the inheritance money. But without a down payment, McConaughey's agreed to take Hirsch's sister as collateral. This is trouble on all sides and will keep you on the edge of your seat all the way to the end.

Rotten Tomatoes — 77% Fresh

3) Premium Rush— Joseph Gordon-Levitt stars as Wilee, one of New York's most agile bike messengers whose latest delivery turns his already fast-paced job into a hell-bent, life-or-death chase through the urban jungles of Manhattan. This package is different, and the contents may have dire consequences if he can't navigate his way through the chaotic streets.

Rotten Tomatoes — 76% Fresh

4) Trouble With the Curve— Amy Adams, Justin Timberlake and Clint Eastwood star in this tale of sport, aging and family bonds. Eastwood's been a legendary baseball scout all his life but when his eyes start to go it's up to the dedication of his daughter to pull him through the rough times and rekindle their relationship after many lost years. She's not alone, though, as Timberlake's charm wiggles its way into her heart. Trouble With the Curve is rated PG-13.

Rotten Tomatoes — 52% Splat

5) Total Recall— Colin Farrell hit the gym instead of the club for his recent role in Total Recall, the remake of the 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger classic, and the hard work payed off. This film is great for the action buff in your family.

10 TV and movie couples we wish would get together like Mila and Ashton

$

We all have favorite on-screen couples, whether they’re on TV or in film. So when Ashton Kutcher hooked up with his That '70s Show co-star Mila Kunis, we started thinking about all the other fictional lovebirds we’d like to see reunite in real life.
1

Rachel McAdams
and Ryan Gosling

Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling

Allie and Noah from The Notebook will go down in history as one of the most beloved on-screen couples of all time. When McAdams and Gosling did hook up, the fans went nuts with excitement over the screen to real life romance. We know it didn’t last, but we still have a soft spot for this former couple.

2

Katie Holmes
and Joshua Jackson

Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson

Pacey and Joey remain one of those TV couples that make fans of Dawson’s Creek swoon when they think back about the show. We know Jackson is firmly rooted in a long-term relationship with Diane Kruger, but in an alternate universe, how amazing would it be for these two former on-screen loves to create some real life romance?

3

Claire Danes
and Jared Leto

Claire Danes and Jared Leto

My So-Called Life was undoubtedly one of the best shows on television about high school life and what it feels like to be a teenager. Claire Danes and Jared Leto as Angela Chase and Jordan Catalano made for a fascinating on screen pair, and though it’s not really feasible, seeing these two reprise their roles in real life would be pretty cool.

4

Keanu Reeves
and Sandra Bullock

Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock

Speed remains one of those movies we have to watch if it ever comes on television, and the main reason for that is the cute chemistry between Reeves and Bullock, who we always wished would find romance off-screen. As far as we know, they’re just friends, but we still think they’d make a great couple.

5

David Duchovny
and Gillian Anderson

David Duchovney and Gillian Anderson

We know we’re not alone in our desire to see Scully and Mulder from The X-Files get together in real life. Seeing these two become more than past co-stars is a veritable online obsession for legions of fans. Are they or aren’t they? Rumors continue to swirl about whether Duchovny and Anderson will ever be more than friends.

6

Colin Firth
and Renee Zellweger

Colin Firth and Renee Zellweger

Who can ever forget Bridget Jones and her bumbling hookup with straight-laced Marc Darcy in Bridget Jones’s Diary ? While Firth is married and we’re not sure what Zellweger’s romantic status is, those two were so hilarious in both films that we can’t resist wanting to see them together off-screen.

7

Kate Winslet
and Leonardo DiCaprio

Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio

Our hearts do go on for these two, the ultimate romantic pairing from mega-blockbuster Titanic. The minute Jack and Rose locked eyes on board the ill-fated ocean liner, we were smitten with their light-hearted chemistry and passionate love for one another. We’re still holding out hope that longtime friends DiCaprio and Winslet will one day make a real life go of their movie romance.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt
and Zooey Deschanel

Joseph Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschanel

There were brief rumors a while back that 500 Days of Summer co-stars Gordon-Levitt and Deschanel were more than friends, but we’re pretty sure nothing ever came of that. However, we’d love to see these two quirky cuties , hook up in real life.

9

Adam Brody
and Rachel Bilson

Adam Brody and Rachel Bilson

If we could magically get Seth and Summer from the The O.C. together in real life, we would. Brody and Bilson made an ultra-cute couple on the show and dated in real life for three years. We even found a Tumblr dedicated to their on-screen romance!

10

Sophia Bush
and Chad Michael Murray

Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray

The real life couple from One Tree Hill couldn’t make it work off-screen . But that doesn’t mean we don’t want them to give it another try now that they’re both older and more mature. They were so cute on the show and we would hope they might be able to get back some of that on-screen spark in the real world.

Shia LaBeouf on acid and Ashton gone Steve Jobs

The Sundance Film Festival is upon us and with countless independent submissions and reviews, it's time we take a look at some of the premieres we're most looking forward to. From Shia LaBeouf drug trips to Ashton Kutcher gone Steve Jobs, 2013 is packed full of some highly anticipated flicks.

Don Jon's Addiction

1

Don Jon's
Addiction

Topping off our list is Joseph- Gordon Levitt's directorial debut, Don Jon's Addiction. JGL stars as Jon Martello, a modern-day Don Juan-type who has a chronic habit of objectifying every aspect of his life. Despite his abilitiy to reel in dimes every weekend, his lust for more and addiction to pornography have left him feeling empty and alone. This time around, Martello's on a search for substance and sustenence in the form of lasting love. Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore also star. If the racy plot hasn't grabbed your attention yet, just consider this bulked-up version of Gordon-Levitt below.

2

The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman

Shia LaBeouf has stated before that Sean Penn's dedication to character development has been one of the motivating factors in his acting career, so it's no surprise LaBeouf dove head-first into the Sundance premiere, The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman. Fans were concerned when LaBeouf freely admitted he did LSD on set for one of the film's more intense scenes, but it appears his attention to detail and methodical ways are only growing stronger. Audiences will have to wait until the release of Nymphomaniac to see just how far LaBeouf will go, as it's been reported he took it all the way home with actress Mia Goth and may now be dating her. But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves here — The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman is an action film at heart with romantic comedy themes and a gangster element that tests the love of LaBeouf and co-star Evan Rachel Wood.

Two Mothers

3

Two Mothers

Naomi Watts and Robin Wright command this passionate film that entails two lifelong friends who fall in love with the other's sons. Romance leads to remorse, relations to retributions, and the friendships they once had are put to the ultimate test as the two mothers struggle to confront one another with their secrets and innermost desires.

4

jOBS

Ashton Kutcher is tackling the role of a lifetime in the form of tech mastermind Steve Jobs. The premiere is said to be a brilliant portrait of Jobs' life from 1977 to 2000 and is expected to be fueled with gritty dialogue to move the piece forward. The film will be a true test of Kutcher's abilities, straying far away from his funnyman roots.

Vergy Good Girls

5

Very Good Girls

Dakota Fanning, Demi Moore and Richard Dreyfuss star in Very Good Girls, a gripping movie about two lifelong friends who make a pact to lose their virginity during their first summer out of high school. But when the two fall for the same street artist, their relationship is put to its first — and ultimate — test. Fanning rarely disappoints.

6

Before Midnight

Jesse   and Celine are back. It's been nearly two decades since they met on that train headed for Vienna and it's safe to say they are strangers no more. That intimate night, so very long ago, has lived on throughout the years and the couple is now in their early forties strolling around the better part of Greece.

Prince Avalanche

7

Prince Avalanche

From director David Gordon Green comes the quirky story of two unsuspecting coworkers and the friendship that is birthed along their less-than-stellar journey. Alvin and Lance begin to slowly understand one another throughout their summer stint, repainting highway lines down a county road that was destroyed by a sprawling wildfire. Together, they begin to discover a sense of meaning and understanding for the dreams they've kept within.

8

Lovelace

Meet Amanda Seyfried as Linda Boreman — perhaps best known as Linda Lovelace — the infamous 1970s sex icon and pornstar who derailed her husband's abusive and exploitative schemes in a desperate attempt to save others from similar reigns. The film is a trial-by-fire perspective on rise, demise and redemption, and the fact that it also stars James Franco, Peter Saarsgaard and Adam Brody has us putting some serious faith in its success.

Valentine's Day movies for him and her

$
0
0
Here's the deal, ladies: We men — though it may be last-minute, nearly every time — go to great lengths to show our love for you each Valentine's Day. The least we could ask for in return is one romantic holiday without The Notebook. But because we care so much, we'll keep Gosling in the equation.

Compromise has such a heavy connotation to it — especially within the context of a holiday like Valentine's Day, which is so heavily focused on loving your better half and stepping outside your norm to make sure they know you care about them.

That being said, I think I speak on behalf of most men when I say that we'd like just one lazy Valentine's Day afternoon without the interruption of Dirty Dancing, Ghost, P.S. I Love You or — dare I say it — the damned Twilight Saga.

Take the ultimate love & sex survey, here!>>

Look, we appreciate a love story just as much as y'all, but can we please make an effort to find some movies we'll both agree on? I promise the following films will hold your attention — and as stated, I've managed to keep Ryan Gosling in the mix.

It's a win-win.

1

Drive

Though we may be eternally jealous of your ongoing infatuation with Mr. Gosling, this is one flick we'll actually enjoy with you. Drive is an intense love story about a professional getaway driver who lands in a world of trouble when he decides to help out his beautiful neighbor . Naturally, the two fall for each other.

2

Knocked Up

I think men love this movie because it's something we can relate to. In poetic terms, we, too, were once the misguided, immature bachelors of society; that is, of course, until you came along and swept us off our feet, ultimately growing us into the men we are today. Okay, so maybe Knocked Up isn't the picture-perfect love story, but Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl star in one of the more realistic portrayals of a one-night stand turned dedicated relationship. The laughs throughout will keep both sexes entertained. If you like this, be sure to check out Judd Apatow's self-proclaimed "sort of sequel"This is 40, starring Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann.

3

The Princess Bride

"Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya," and though I may be slightly embarrassed to admit this, we dudes can actually appreciate this fairy tale love story that was released in 1987. Packed full of comedy and adventure, this film is about the beautiful blossoming of Buttercup and Westley's relationship.

4

Bull Durham

To paraphrase , veteran catcher Crash Davis believes in "the soul, the small of a woman's back, the hanging curveball, good scotch and long, slow ,deep, soft, wet kisses that last three days." If that doesn't grab your attention, no baseball film ever will. Bull Durham is witty and provocative and features some of the best lines ever heard on the big screen. And there's absolutely no denying it's a Susan Sarandon grand slam as jersey-chaser Annie Savoy. Women will appreciate the men in tight pants, and men will love you even more for entering the Church of Baseball.

5

Good Will Hunting

Starring Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver, Robin Williams and Stellan Skarsgard — arguably in their prime — Good Will Hunting is an unforgettable story of friendship, the search for self-worth, healing, purpose and a wicked-smart tale of love. "How ya like dem apples?" This one's man-approved all the way and we know you ladies dig some time with Mr. Damon and Mr. Affleck.

6

No Strings Attached

Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher discover the fine line between the utopian idea of friends with benefits and real, legitimate, serious love. Watch as they break all the rules, cross boundaries and uncover their passion in the hilarious romcom No Strings Attached. Perhaps this is your story — maybe it's not — either way, this thing is awesome for guys and gals.

7

500 Days of Summer

Okay, so this one can be a bit touchy on Valentine's Day as it doesn't quite play out the happy ending we all had in mind, but the fact remains, 500 Days of Summer is one of the most honest love movies out there to date. Joseph Gordon-Levitt reveals his healing process through a number of flashbacks, examining brilliant moments of victory and defeat with his wonderful girlfriend, Summer . This flick is spot-on when it comes to illustrating the woeful, defeated, Smiths-driven soundtrack of melancholy life on the single track which can be so upturned when one finds the perfect counterpart. 500 Days of Summer will reignite the fate that brought you and your babe together, while steering clear of cliché.

8

Casablanca

We had to throw in a classic. This is the stuff that musters up our ideas of Hollywood love, and Casablanca is a timeless hit for anyone with heartstrings. Featuring Humphrey Bogart, Ingrid Bergman and Paul Henreid.

As if we needed another reason to love Joseph Gordon-Levitt, the actor visited Sesame Street to help us all understand the world "reinforce."

In the three-minute clip below, watch Joseph Gordon-Levitt, nicknamed "Joe" in the skit, work with Sesame Street resident Murray as they demonstrate the word of the day with the help — or sacrifice — of JGL's favorite watch. The entire scene is totally adorable.

Celebrities who've stopped by Sesame Street>>

Clearly, Levitt is committed to this role and finds a great balance of acting and sincerity. Our favorite part is the wince at the end when —surprise! — Murray accidentally hits Joe on the foot with a hammer. Joe's response? "I should have reinforced my shoe." Ah, we see what you did there. Clever. Very clever.

Sesame Street was created in 1969 and is a staple of PBS since it first aired on the network in 1970. The educational children's series is widely popular: a 1996 survey found 95 percent of all American preschoolers watch Sesame Street and in 2008 a federal government report found over 77 million adults watched the show at some point as children.
